ROBERT E. MITCHELL CENTER MISSION STATEMENT
We manage the Repatriated Prisoner of War (RPW) Program to care for our nation’s RPWs and identify health related risks of posttraumatic stress and POW internment for future members of armed forces, as well as health trends for aging populations.
The purpose of the ongoing study is to determine whether there are captivity-related physical problems or mental problems such as posttraumatic stress disorder. Information gathered from repatriated prisoners of war is in the context of annual physical examinations; the results of which are released to the patient for routine health maintenance and to document disabilities that may be compensable through the Department of Veterans Affairs system.
ROBERT E. MITCHELL FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT
The sole purpose of the Foundation is to support the Robert E. Mitchell Center for Prisoner of War Studies. Monies raised will support research costs, including building operation, personnel costs, equipment, maintenance, and publishing costs. Every effort will be made to publish research results in the medical literature but also make this information available to our patrons; the repatriated prisoners of war.
In 2004, the Secretary of the Navy signed a memorandum of understanding that allowed the Foundation to raise monies; the interest from which to be gifted to the Navy.
